A newborn pup normally takes at least 8 weeks time to become more matured or at least to get to understand the surroundings. However, animal enthusiasts say that only when the pup reaches an age of 6 months, it can be considered as grown up and you can train them easily. Though grown up pups seldom engage in scratching and biting things, few people still prefer newborn pups to the grown ups for the sheer excitement of seeing a mischievous puppy.

Whenever you go for getting a young puppy you should bear in your mind many things with regard to the behavior of puppies. Puppies, up to the age of 8 weeks, normally bite on things and keep scratching your carpet and other areas. Animal enthusiasts refer such behavior of puppies to its need for a position in the hierarchy and you can even sometimes see puppies biting their own mother and getting growled away by the angry mother.

Puppies when they reach an age of 6 months try to recognize their surroundings and start respecting their mother and this will be the right stage for you to adopt the pup. Though training a 6 months old pup is not easy, you can still start the training programme so as to make your pup accustomed to the training in its initial age itself.

Further, pups only when they reach an age of 6 months, start gaining control over its bladder and bowel movement and this is the stage where you can potty train your pup and teach hygiene habits. As pups, younger than 6 months, may find it difficult to hold their natural calls, you may end messing up your home at many places.

Puppies as they grow old understand you and your home better and they also start behaving in a matured way and keep calm when required, however you need to train your puppy at the right stage so as to expect a better behavior from it. Whenever you go for puppy purchase, always look for few important behavioral signs such as aggressiveness or nervousness, as these signs are indications of neglect on these puppies and you should consider these factors while deciding your pup buy.
